According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the United States has less than 5% of the world’s population, yet
it has 23% of the world's most imprisoned population. A collateral consequence of this imprisonment trend is the amount of youth with a history or current pattern of parental incarceration. These children face an array of challenges and need comprehensive, clientfocused, and culturally sensitive support. An emphasis will be placed on risk and protective factors, the trauma of incarceration, racial differences, post-traumatic stress disorder, and post-traumatic growth.
