Currently DNA evidence has led to the exoneration of 362 prisoners nationwide, all convicted of crimes they did not commit. Many more have been freed on the basis of non- DNA evidence of innocence. These criminal justice wrongdoings cause unimaginable harm to the innocent, who suffer tremendous loss and face innumerable obstacles to rebuilding their lives after years in prison. This presentation will focus on this widespread human harm and will feature Michael Austin, an exoneree, who served decades for a crime he did not commit; Katie Monroe, the daughter of an exoneree from Virginia and the Executive Director of Healing Justice, a national nonprofit that provides support in the aftermath of wrongful convictions; and Veronica Cruz, a Forensic Social Worker and trauma expert, who specializes in criminal defense and is the CEO of Cruz and Associates. Please join us for this very important and timely discussion, and learn how to provide support and assistance to all victims of criminal justice system failures.
