SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment, is an evidence-based practice used to screen clients for at risk substance use followed by a brief intervention and referral to treatment when appropriate. All students at UMB School of Social Work will be receiving instruction on the practice of SBIRT during the Foundation 630 course or a 1 credit course that will be offered 3 times per academic year. While some field instructors may already be trained in the use of SBIRT, not all will be familiar with the intervention and few will have received instruction on how to supervise a student's use of SBIRT. This training will combine training on the use of SBIRT as well as how to supervise a social work student's practice of SBIRT.
