Almost half of the nation's children have experienced at least one type of serious
childhood trauma, according to the National Survey of Children's Health. This growing
statistic requires that mental health professionals be better informed and skilled at using
best practice interventions to serve trauma survivors. Trauma is a sensory experience that
affects the mind and body; therefore, treatment must include sensory-based interventions
to facilitate the healing process. Participants in this experiential workshop will receive an
overview of the physical and mental effects of trauma, and will have the opportunity to
interact and play as they practice and learn sensory-based interventions to use with child
and adolescent trauma survivors.
